Cup of dirt*

Sometimes I bring to work some very strange Filipino dishes for lunch.   Most of them look and smell appetizing to  my coworkers, but when I offer a taste, they politely decline.  I do love their culinary curiosity, though.  We often get into lenghty discussions about all things cooking related.

Today, I brought with me one of my favorite Filipino dishes.  It’s called siopao.

So, naturally, when one of my coworkers saw these little delights, she asked me what they were.  But my head had been in a fog all morning long and I didn’t want to get into the whole shpiel of what it’s called and how they are made.

I simply replied, “Oh, um, they’re called pork buns.”

“Oh really?  What’re pork buns?”

“Umm…well, they’re buns…with pork in it.”

“Gee thanks.”

“You’re welcome!”

  1. Mmmm, your cups of dirt look delicious. :P

  2. “Cup of dirt” made me think of Jack Sparrow’s jar of dirt from the 2nd movie that I’m too tired to remember the title of.

  3. I’m going to search for a recipe — bread and pork? Two of my favorite things!!

  4. Jammie J – don’t they? You should definitely try it!

blackpunking – huh…..I had the title of the movie earlier but now I can’t remember it either. Oh, Dead Man’s Chest?

Karen – there’s supposed to be a YouTube video out there of how to make one of these. If you do try it, let me know cause homemade siopao is just the best!
